Market outlook ·

A slower building market changes the questions worth asking.

A busy skyline is not the same thing as a full order book. Separate the construction outlook from the demand your own trade is seeing.

What the source says

CMHC's July 22, 2026 mid-year outlook expects subdued housing activity and falling housing starts across its forecast period. It identifies particular weakness in Ontario and British Columbia condominium construction.

Our interpretation for a trades owner

This is context, not a forecast of your inquiries. Review new-build, renovation and service work separately before changing your marketing. Ask which jobs your team has capacity for and measure qualified inquiries by service.

A useful question this week

If new-build work slows, can you see how much of your pipeline depends on it? Tag inquiries by job type before making a spending decision.
